I have two root canals and two caps. I use to go to the Family Dentist diligently every 6 months. Over the last two years however because of time constraints and because I was simply upset with the dental business in general I simply stopped going.
The particular dentist at my practice seemed only interested in finding a reason to effect a dental procedure on me seemingly without cause. Moreover, when I declined he simply said well I cannot even clean your teeth if you are not going to subsequently has us do the procedure. I got up and did not go back.
I then went to the drug store and purchased dental scrapers, cleaners, and polishers. I promised I would handle all my own dentistry. After all, how hard could it be.
To be honest in the long run it was the wrong decision. Dentists know what to look for and dental hygienist are trained to get to places we are unable to get to. One experience with a bad dentist should not be reason to put ones dental health at risk. While my choice have not caused permanent damage, when my gums began bleeding excessively was an indication that my procedures needed help.
