Excellent iReport by my friend and fellow iReporter Cliff Olney on our current economic Depression. His words should be heeded by politicians. The discontent in our nation is not publicly visible or covered in the press. The Tea Party, a mostly (but not entirely as some are my friends with genuine concerns) group of mal-educated middle-aged selfish, prejudice ideologs are covered by the media, while many that are suffering in an economy that will never come back for them wither.
The house next to mine in a pretty nice neighborhood is being foreclosed on. I spoke to the bank agent who was reviewing the property. He told me he is foreclosing 28 homes a week and his office has 14 people doing the same average. With a face of concern he told me of a family in another fairly affluent neighborhood where he went yesterday to foreclose. He said the grass was overgrown, the utilities were cutoff, and the family was still in the house in Houston’s heat. The homeowner told him he could not make the payment, the house lost 30% of the value, he cannot refinance, and he lost his job with no where to go. This story is repeated over and over.
Hope lost reaps despair. Despair reaps a feeling of nothing to lose. A feeling of nothing to lose reap revolution. It has happened elsewhere, it can happen here.
